Additional Information

Dennis Shoemaker was born on June 30, 1959 in Norwalk, California.  He played offensive guard for Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, California.  During his tenure there, the team compiled a 41-6-2 record and a 1976 State Championship.  After graduating high school in 1977, Dennis attended Antelope Valley Junior College and played two years of football there.  Despite Dennis' lack of size, he started as an offensive lineman there for two years and received a scholarship to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.  At Bethany, Dennis played guard both his junior and senior year for Head Coach Ted Kessinger (College Football Hall Famer) and Positon Coach Ron Aiken (Defensive Line Coach Arizona Cardinals).  He received All-Conference honors his senior year.

Dennis began his military career in 1980, when he enlisted in the United State Army Reserve as a medic.  Upon graduation from Bethany College in 1983, he entered active service in the United States Marine Corps as Radio Repair Technician. After leaving the Marine Corps, Coach Shoemaker joined the United States Army in July 1988 where he served as a communications operator. He was commissioned as an Armor Officer from the Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Coach Shoemaker's assignments included:  Platoon Leader and Communications Officer at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Maintenance Officer at Camp Carroll, Korea; Logistics Officer, Commander, and Training/Operations Officer at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served as Communications Officer for the United States Embassy/United Nations in the country of Haiti.  His final assignment was basic training commander at Fort Jackson, Sourth Carolina.  Coach Shoemaker retired April 30, 2004 after 24 years of faithful service.  Dennis has graduated from some of the best leadership schools in the world to include Marine Corps Basic Training, Scout Platoon Leaders Course, Special Forces Selection Course, Officers Candidate School, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Course, and Army Ranger School.

Dennis has coached offensive line at the high school level at Ridgeview, Kingstree, Lake Marion and Calhoun County in South Carolina.  At Calhoun County High School, he helped lead the program to a 47-10 record in the past four years and lead the state in scoring in 2008.  He also coached at Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia.  He also coached the offensive line at Keenan High School.  Thiry-five percent of his linemen have played at the college level.  He has coached for high school All-Americans, one high school All-star game in Georgia, and has won five region championships. He is currently coaching as Offensive Line Coach at Tucker High School.

Dennis has graduated from the following institutions, whcih include:  BA Education from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas; AS in Electronics from Antelope Valley JC in Lancaster, CA; and MA in Business Management from National University in San Diego, CA.  He recently graduated from Georgia Regents University in August, Georgia with a Masters of Arts in Special Education.

Dennis taught JROTC for three years at both Kingstree, South Carolina and Progreso High School in Texas.  Each of these programs received honor unit with distinction under his leadership.  He worked as an instructor at the alternative school at Calhoun County High School. He also taught special ed at Keenan High School in Columbia, SC.

Coach Shoemaker is currently single and has four children, Megan (31), Allison (26) student, Andrew (24) US Air Force and Lauren (21).
